LABYRINTH RESPONSIBILITY

Use of the labyrinth shall be in accordance with the attached guidelines and instructions. If the labyrinth is defective in any way when you receive it, please let us know immediately by calling Sarah Webb at 319-277-0024. Thank you for your careful stewardship of the labyrinth that you are renting.

As the renter of our labyrinth, you are responsible for its care and safety while it is in your possession. We require that you show proof of insurance that will cover the labyrinth for an event such as you will be holding. Or, in lieu of insurance, someone may sign this form as being responsible for the labyrinth in the event it may be lost or damaged. If that were to happen, and the labyrinth is not returned in the same condition in which it left our hands, then the person who has signed below agrees to pay whatever costs may be necessary to clean, repair, or replace part or all of the labyrinth.

RENTAL LABYRINTH INSTRUCTIONS

Labyrinth: 36-foot canvas labyrinth with the Chartres design, divided into three sections.

Shipping: Labyrinth comes in a 45-gallon Rubbermaid tub with wheels on one end. It weighs 108 pounds. To facilitate loading into a vehicle, open the container (remove ties from the handles and tape from the latches) and remove one or two sections of the labyrinth, put the container into the vehicle, and put the sections back into the container.

USE GUIDELINES

  1. Labyrinth is only to be used indoors.
  2. Please make sure the floor where it will be laid out is clean. Otherwise the back of the canvas gets very dirty. Even then, try to avoid dragging the labyrinth across the floor.
  3. The labyrinth should stay put on its own, although on carpet it tends to “crawl.” It can be weighed down with clean heavy objects, but not taped.
  4. Cardinal rule: NO SHOES ON THE LABYRINTH. Please have people remove their shoes. Socks are preferable to bare feet (body oils, etc.) At our labyrinth walks we provide a basket of clean socks for people to use. Alternatively, you can provide disposable medical “booties” that fit over the shoes.
  5. No food or liquids on or near the labyrinth.
  6. No candles on the labyrinth or at the very edge of the labyrinth. It works better to light the room with the candles rather than trying to light just the labyrinth.

FOLDING THE LABYRINTH

Very important: When folding it back up, please follow these instructions. Please make sure the labyrinth is clean by sweeping it lightly, and also sweeping off the back during the folding process.

  1. Disconnect the Velcro so that the labyrinth is in three separate sections, each to be folded separately. Follow these instructions for each section.
  2. The first fold is always in half, so the top (painted surface) goes against the top. This protects the walking surface. Never roll it up, as the back will end up against the front. To fold it in half takes two people who have their shoes off and are on the canvas. Lift up one edge and run to the opposite side - air will get under the canvas and keep it from dragging and bunching up.
  3. The second fold is in half in the opposite direction, so that the canvas will be six feet wide and 18 feet long. Fold it slightly off-center so that the fold isn’t directly on the seam.
  4. Starting at the folded end of the panel, fold over about one foot of material, then fold that section over again, making it tight and even. Continue folding until reaching the other end. This is a “rolling” motion, but by making it flat rather than round, it will fit better into the container.
  5. Finally, fold the roll into a size that will fit into the plastic container. Generally, one outer section is folded into thirds and put into the bottom of the container (the smallest area due to wheels on one end). The other two sections can be folded in half.
